S32205 / 2205 Stainless Steel Composition & Duplex Corrosion‑Resistant Properties

S32205 / 2205 is the most widely used duplex stainless steel, containing 22–23% chromium, 4.5–6.5% nickel, 3–3.5% molybdenum, and nitrogen. It combines ferritic and austenitic phases, offering twice the yield strength of 304/316 and significantly higher pitting and crevice corrosion resistance (PREN 35–40).
2205 performs reliably in seawater, chloride‑rich media, weak acids, chemical processing environments, and high‑stress applications. It is commonly used in desalination plants, pressure piping, storage tanks, heat exchangers, marine structures, and chemical reactors.
2205 is supplied as plates, tubes, bars, and profiles. As a stronger and more corrosion‑resistant alternative to 316L, it is ideal for demanding industrial and marine environments.
