S32101 Stainless Steel Composition & Lean Duplex Properties

S32101 is a lean duplex stainless steel containing approximately 21–22% chromium, low nickel (1.3–1.7%), nitrogen, and manganese. It offers twice the yield strength of austenitic grades while maintaining good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.

Its corrosion resistance exceeds 304 and approaches 316, making it suitable for seawater systems, structural components, storage tanks, railings, chemical equipment, and light marine applications. Weldability is good, and duplex balance remains stable after welding. S32101 is supplied as sheets, plates, tubes, and profiles. As a cost‑efficient alternative to 304/316, it provides high strength and reliable corrosion resistance for structural and industrial applications.
