SUS 317L is a high‑molybdenum, low‑carbon austenitic stainless steel defined in JIS G4304 / G4312. It is an upgraded corrosion‑resistant version of SUS 316L, typically containing 18–20% chromium, 11–15% nickel, and 3–4% molybdenum. The higher molybdenum content provides significantly improved resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride‑rich environments.
The low‑carbon design minimizes sensitization during welding, making 317L suitable for chemical processing equipment, seawater systems, acidic media, food‑processing installations, and high‑purity systems. It is often selected over 316L for pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and piping in aggressive environments.
SUS 317L is supplied as sheets, plates, strips, tubes, and bars. It is widely used in chemical, marine, pharmaceutical, and high‑end industrial applications requiring superior corrosion resistance.
