1.4948 Stainless Steel Composition & High‑Temperature Strength

1.4948 (X6CrNi18‑11) is a high‑temperature austenitic stainless steel grade under EN standards, equivalent to 321H. With 17–19% chromium, 9–12% nickel, and titanium stabilization, it prevents carbide precipitation during elevated‑temperature service, ensuring resistance to intergranular corrosion.
Its higher carbon content compared with 1.4541 (321) provides improved creep strength and long‑term stability at elevated temperatures. The grade is suitable for continuous service in the 600–850°C range, including boiler components, heat exchangers, exhaust systems, furnace structures, and high‑temperature pressure equipment. It maintains good weldability and retains corrosion resistance without requiring post‑weld heat treatment. 1.4948 is supplied as plates, tubes, bars, and forgings. It is widely used in petrochemical plants, thermal processing equipment, power‑generation systems, and high‑temperature transfer structures. As a strengthened version of the 321 family, it offers superior high‑temperature strength and resistance to sensitization.
