Chemical composition and mechanical properties of 304L stainless steel pipe

304L stainless steel pipe is a common low-carbon stainless steel. Its chemical composition and mechanical properties are as follows:

chemical composition:
- Carbon (C) content: maximum 0.03%. The low carbon content makes 304L stainless steel pipe have good corrosion resistance and intergranular corrosion resistance.
- Silicon (Si) content: maximum 1.00%. The addition of silicon can improve the strength and corrosion resistance of 304L stainless steel pipe.
- Manganese (Mn) content: maximum 2.00%. The presence of manganese helps increase the tensile strength and hardness of stainless steel.
- Phosphorus (P) content: maximum 0.045%. The phosphorus content should be controlled at a low level to avoid negative effects on the cold working properties of stainless steel.
- Sulfur (S) content: maximum 0.030%. The sulfur content should be as low as possible to reduce the corrosion tendency of 304L stainless steel pipe.
- Nickel (Ni) content: 8.00% - 12.00%. The addition of nickel helps improve the corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance of 304L stainless steel pipe.
- Chromium (Cr) content: 18.00% - 20.00%. Chromium is a key element of stainless steel, giving it good corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance.

Mechanical behavior:
- Yield strength: not less than 170 MPa. Yield strength refers to the stress value at which a material begins to undergo plastic deformation during stretching.
- Tensile strength: not less than 485 MPa. Tensile strength refers to the maximum tensile stress value that 304L stainless steel pipe can withstand.
- Elongation: not less than 40%. Elongation indicates the degree of plastic deformation that 304L stainless steel pipe can undergo before breaking.
- Hardness (Brinell hardness): not exceeding 201HB. Hardness is the ability of 304L stainless steel pipe to resist scratches or dents, and one of the commonly used measurement methods is the Brinell hardness test.

These values are general guidelines and specific chemical composition and mechanical properties may vary depending on manufacturers, standards and specifications. When purchasing 304L stainless steel pipe, it is recommended to refer to the specific material certificate and specification sheet for accurate data
