Duplex Stainless Steel: High‑Strength Corrosion‑Resistant Alloy for Harsh Industrial Environments

Duplex stainless steel features a balanced microstructure of austenite and ferrite, providing a combination of high strength, good toughness, and excellent corrosion resistance. Its yield strength is typically more than twice that of austenitic stainless steel, while its superior resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking makes it suitable for seawater, brine, and acidic environments.
Common industrial grades include S32205 (2205) and the Chinese equivalent 0Cr26Ni5Mo2. Their alloy design—rich in chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen—ensures strong resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion. Duplex stainless steel is available in plates, pipes, bars, and forgings, supporting applications ranging from fluid transport to high‑strength structural components.
Duplex stainless steel is widely used in oil and gas systems, chemical processing equipment, marine engineering, pulp and paper plants, environmental protection facilities, and architectural structures. Its ability to withstand high pressure, high temperature, and corrosive media makes it ideal for pipelines, heat exchangers, seawater pumps, reactors, and offshore structures. With its balanced performance and cost efficiency, duplex stainless steel has become a preferred material in demanding industrial environments.
