ASTM A240 316LN Stainless Steel Composition & Nitrogen‑Enhanced Properties

ASTM A240 316LN (UNS S31653) is a nitrogen‑enhanced, molybdenum‑alloyed austenitic stainless steel grade under ASTM standards. With 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, 2–3% molybdenum, and added nitrogen, it provides higher yield strength, improved pitting resistance, and enhanced weld stability compared with 316L.
316LN maintains excellent corrosion resistance after welding and is suitable for pressure vessels, storage tanks, hygienic systems, cryogenic equipment, and marine engineering. Its higher strength makes it ideal for structural components requiring both corrosion resistance and mechanical performance.
316LN is supplied as sheets, plates, strips, tubes, and bars. As a nitrogen‑strengthened version of 316L, it offers a superior balance of strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance across chemical, pharmaceutical, marine, and high‑purity industries.
